One Week Film School

 

Make no mistake; this is not another classroom book course. This is the real deal with real professional camera and lighting in a real film studio and you as a crew member.

Day 1.

A full day learning about how movies are produced including a complete breakdown of how a day on set involves all the departments.

 

Areas covered include:

  • From Producer to Production assistant (B.C.’s film workers and how

you can get your foot in the door)

  • How Hollywood producers go about purchasing screen plays
  • Unions and Guilds
  • Using the “clapper” to slate shots
  • Screen direction and the 180 degree line
  • Tools and techniques of the director
  • Master shots, Mediums, close ups, cutaways, reactions and inserts
  • Critical concerns of the film editor
  • A breakdown of the script we will be shooting

 

 

Day 2.

Hands-on training as you learn to use a professional production camera along with studio lighting and gripping equipment.

 

Students will have the opportunity to practice with:

 

·        Betacam SP Camera (operation and camera assisting)

·        C stands

·        Flags

·        Nets

·        Charlie Bars

·        Silks

·        Lighting instruments (fresnel and open faced)

·        Color temperature gels

·        The McAlister Crab Dolly

·        Track Dolly

·        Digital Audio recorder

·        Boom Poles

 

 

Day 3.

First of three on set days where you rotate through different crew jobs as we shoot our script with professional actors in our studio.  You will work as camera operator, camera assistant, sound mixer, boom operator, script supervisor, continuity, assistant director, dolly grip, gaffer, director.

 

                                    Each participant will be given an opportunity

                                    to experience the real job functions as we

                                    move through the shooting schedule.  From

                                    set up to set up you will change jobs and

                                    learn how and why professional film production

                                    takes the time it does.                     

Day 4

Another exciting day on set as you continue the process of working as a crew member guided by Barry.

 

Day 5

This will be our final shoot day on set.  Time will be set aside for us to view and analyze some of the various takes of our past three days of shooting

 

Day 6

A full 8 hour day of digital editing instruction as individually you are provided the opportunity to practice editing together your studio shoot.

 

 

                                    A professional video editor will guide

                                    you through the process of cutting

                                    together the show you have just filmed

                                    using Mac G4’s and final cut pro software.

 

                                    You will clearly learn why films are shot

                                    the way they are and how important the

                                    shooting process is toward the successful

editing of the film.

 

The final DVD copy of the production that each student will receive will be

the professional editors copy.
